Less common types of jewelry include jewelry for piercings such as bellybutton rings, and other jewelry such as toe rings and ankle bracelets.

Since the De Beers Group popularized diamonds in the 19th century, they have become one of the most popular gemstones that are used in jewelry. Diamonds may be used in any type of jewelry; one of the most popular types of jewelry diamonds are used in is diamond necklace.

Diamond Necklaces

While the term diamond necklace may only bring to mind one type of diamond necklaces, they’re actually many different types of necklaces with available. These necklaces include chokers, princess necklaces, matinee necklaces, opera necklaces, and rope necklaces.

These styles actually denote the length of the necklace in question. Choker necklaces, like the name suggests, are the shortest of the necklace styles. These are designed to sit directly on the neck or at the base of the neck. They’re generally 14 to 16 inches long. Princess necklaces are the next smallest. They’re around 18 inches long and fall just below the neck.

Matinee necklaces are 22 to 23 inches long and should sit directly on the chest area. Opera necklaces vary greatly in length, they are generally between 30 to 36 inches long. Rope necklaces are even longer; this group of necklaces includes anything that is longer than an opera necklace’s maximum 36 inch length.

Necklace styles

In addition to varying lengths, diamond necklaces can also come in different styles and for different purposes. One example is diamond necklaces are that hold religious symbols worn around the neck. For example, many people choose to wear crosses around their neck as a symbol of their faith.

In the past these religious symbols were actually worn around the neck for protection. This protection may have been spiritual, physical, or magical in nature. In addition to crosses, other religious symbols may be worn as necklaces or even diamond necklaces as well.

Necklaces can also be worn for other purposes. For example, some necklaces are worn to denote military affiliation (dog tags) or as representative of an award. A prominent example of this is Olympic medals. Olympic medals are used to denote what place a person comes in a particular event in the Olympics. These metals may be gold, silver, or bronze which of course denote first, second, and third place.
